Is there an age limit on Stardoll?
I've always thought about if there was an age I "should," or "have to" quit Stardoll.
Is Stardoll a game for little girls? At first appearance- yes, it is. But those of us who have delved deeper into Stardoll: mainly the artistic scene such as magazines, blogs, and user made fashion lines, have realized it's a bit more complicated and more adult generated than the average 8 year old's site. After all, can an young child really create and manage the high tech and graphic complicated sites we present to each other?
If the answer to that is no, does that mean Stardoll has matured to a more adult friendly site, and if not adult, to a site where the minimum age should be moved to, atleast, 12? If so, does this mean, the so-called "termination age"- or, the age where an adult should be "too old for a paper doll site"? Does this mean somebody going to college or higher education of any sort, or perhaps, graduated and looking for a job, or even having a job (and children, maybe) should not be on Stardoll?
Before we argue this point: let me ask you, if you were browsing on Stardoll and you found a user with an amazing doll (all the rares, beautiful suite, accomplished blog), but then found out they were a mother of 4 children and 40 years old, would you treat this user differently than if you knew this user was 16 years old?
I guess what I'm asking is: does age really make a difference? Comment and let us know! I'll be posting the best comments in a follow-up post.

I don't know. I joined Stardoll when I was 9 years old, and back then, everything was so simple I didn't think about the scarier, dirtier things that could be on this website. I just focused on the main, fun things and it was the best. Why is it that we ask if there should be an age limit, but the older members of Stardoll are the ones creating dirty accounts?
ReplyDeleteUmm if i would see a 40 years woman or 50.. idk i would think its weird, cause she would be the age of my mom and i know that my mom would never waste her time on stardoll cause she got other things to do not playng stardoll. And i would think wats wrong with that woman? Why shes not like my mom? I mean everyone that age should, work, have family, spend time different.
ReplyDeleteAbout the age.. Well i feel if it was not for the blogging world, for all the magazines and other stuff i would not play stardoll. It wouldn't be so interesting.. Ofc friends and fashion and that stuff but blogging world is the most interesting thing for me.
And i'm already 16, sometimes my best friend laughs about me cause she sees that i play stardoll every day, and says: ,,Hey Anna arent you too old for this?'' I never know what to answear her.
ReplyDeleteTo me it kind of matters, your example is nice; I wouldn't pay them any mind, wouldn't look back! Why? I feel like Stardoll is for people 15-26-ish to be honest, because that's the 'scene' I'm in! :)
ReplyDelete~Just my 2 cents..
I think starting at like 12 is good and maybe 50/60 is too old... because my 9 year-old cousin just started using stardoll a week ago and I have to explain how to do EVERYTHING toher. Plus she when she goes to parties with people older than her she doesn't get what their saying because their probs making sex references X_X
ReplyDeleteThe only difference that I would make is that I would treat a 40-year old with more respect than I would treat a 16-year old.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I feel like on the outside Stardoll seems very childish :P No one knows I play on the site. But once you're submerged in the game, I don't think there is an age limit. It's a great time passer (or too much of a time passer)
ReplyDeleteAt first glance to an eight year old, it would seem like a fun virtual dress-up game. Perfectly innocent and childish.
ReplyDeleteAs for an age limit, I don't think that is necessary. Sure, there many accounts which display inappropriate subjects to children, but you learn to stay away from things like that when you are young.
I think that at any age, Stardoll can be an enjoyable way to express yourself. At younger ages, it may be some fun game. If you're towards the older range (20+), it can be a little niche to delve in your imagination.
Like manny. said, from the outside Stardoll looks very childish. And, also like her, no one knows I play there. Except for my 11 year old sister, who makes fun of me for still being active. She quit last year, whereas I'm 4 years older than her and still active.
Stardoll can be a means of an escape... an outlet for self expression. Those things know no boundaries nor limits... not even one's biological clock.
ReplyDeleteI've been on stardoll since i was 9 and i am turning 16 this year. My parents and friends and siblings make fun of me for still being active. My sister signed up stardoll around the same time i did, but she claims to be inactive (don't lie, it says on your profile you were last seen 3 minutes ago dear...). I agree, stardoll looks childish on the outside. I also agree it's a brilliant way to pass time and expand on my creatviity. I can't find myself in a place of giving up stardoll any seconds. But i really hate those dirty minded eight year olds you get on stardoll now days though...
ReplyDeleteI joined when I was 9 and I was alright - I think everyone should get to use stardoll, it says 'Games for girls' not 'games for girls over 12'. It wouldn't be fair to change the age limit.
ReplyDeleteNo there isnt. But I don't think that a 40 years woman would be interest in a game like that.It is a litle strange if you think it.The most people in stardoll is 9-20 years old.
ReplyDeleteThis is my opinion♥
