Anonymous Commenting: We Welcome It

You would think that with all of the complaining that has been thrown around about anonymous commenting, blog owners(who I am sure are just as sick of it as the readers are) would do something to halt it. However, owners of almost every blog have yet to do a thing about it. Is that because while it annoys them, they enjoy the controversy it stirs up beneath posts.

Sure, anonymous commenting brings a certain vicious flavor to the blogging world.  But it's just as useless as it is controversial. And for the writers who are creating posts, it's always nice to hear opinions, both good and bad...but when they come from people who cannot seem to reveal their criticism along with their identities, it down right pisses you off.

These annoyances leave us asking ourselves what can be done about the anonymous assholes who think they are invincible as they hide behind a mask and throw their often ridiculous opinions in our faces. I recently proposed to Noelle, an option that would leave anonymous commenters more pissed off than ever. And that idea was to remove the option of commenting anonymously. With the removal of that option, it just might provoke the unidentified commenters to show their faces in an attempt to express how they feel about being shut off.

Is this idea something you find appeasing? If not, what do you suggest?
From this point on, anonymous comments will be deleted or ignored by me.
Anonymous commenters, you are nothing but pathetic, sad excuses for human beings.

  1. Seriously? Why are you so upset about anons? I mean they are annoying, but this is way over that.

  2. I totally agree with Milena Petrova, I mean if you don't like it you can always disable it.
I'm honestly tired of ALL the posts about anonymous comments there are, if you don't like it then just DISABLE it, it's not hard, really.

  4. Noelle is the only one who can disable it. Hence the mention of me proposing the idea to her.

I do, however, understand the annoyance that all the posts about anonymous comments have caused.

Hopefully the situation can be resolved soon and we won't have to deal with anonymous commenting any longer.

  5. Its very severe, but a sensible idea, it will hopefully spare more peoples feelings too

  6. I find it hilarious that you come off with such a vicious attack on anonymous commenters, call them useless, pathetic, and anything else you can muster up.

How long ago was ElitesExposed? Wasn't too long if I remember that correctly. Your complete contradiction and sudden change of heart seems very severe, judgmental, hypocritical, and quiet frankly is annoying.

Another thing perhaps you might want to consider is the obvious fact that anonymous commenters won't care if you cut them off.

Take away the option, you take away the comments. They won't create blogger accounts, they won't come out as to who they are, they'll just go away from this certain blog.

And this whole always complaining about everything that goes on, nothing's good enough for anyones standards, that's getting old really fast.

  7. Why does the title say you welcome anonymous commenting when the entire article is a bitch fit against them? That makes no sense.

  8. Personally, I agree. I find that even though anonymousies are fun sometimes, there's always a reason they are anonymous. Whether it's dishing crap about somebody for no apparent reason other than starting gossip, or just being plain stupid, I find anonymous useless.

  9. Anonymous commenters are annoying, but sometimes they aren't rude. Some people don't want to create a google account, and you just took away the privilage. Your saying you care about good and bad, then why are you taking away the bad. Just delete the comments if they use fowl language and go over board,if it's something along the lines of an anonymous user just stating their opinion like "I don't like this post,I feel it only shows your side of the story" then why delete that? That's their opinion. Thats why bloggings here, so we can hear all sides of the story.

  11. This is a tough one. I can really understand both sides of the issue. The main thing I dislike about the anonymous comments is that they are usually either full of foul language, or are hurtful. That's what stirs things up.

On the other hand, I can also see why someone wouldn't want to register with Blogspot. But to me, if they wanna leave comments, it's the least they should do.

Bottom line: turn off anonymous commenting. Let's see how it goes, huh?

  13. To be honest, anybody who says that idea is horrible, to me, screams one who is too afraid to show who they are.

I see what you mean. And i agree with it....

  16. I partly agree with you, if you don't like anonymous comments remove the option. But I don't think all anonymous comments are negative & not all blogger signed comments are positive. You should aim at stopping all negative comments because the reality is we are all anonymous. Anyone can sign any name & feel because they used a name they have the right to be negative. I like all posiive comments because to me everyone is hiding behind their true identity. Enough about your posts & war against anonymous commenters just remove the option but that won't save you from any negative feedback it would still be the same. Even if they leave a name what happens? Writers earn respect by how they address others.

  17. Go Aislin! I remember us discussing this recentley. I hope Noelle DOES take the option away, it would really prevent so much of the shit that goes on.

  18. Taking away the option to comment anonymously is just as cowardly as commenting anonymously.

  19. Elites Expose was a bad idea on my part. But I showed my face and took all the negative critcism. We all make bad choices at one point or another. The difference betweent me and these commenters is the fact that I came out and apologized for what I did and admitted it was wrong. They have no intention of doing such a thing.

And whoever said that they won't create blogger accounts and post is right. I could care less about that. If they don't want to show their faces, that's fine. But at least they won't be able to harass the writers any longer.

Also, we all know that all of the anonymous commenters are not terrible and rude. They speak intelligently and deserve to be heard. And since that statement is true and we welcome them, why can't they post with their true identity?

The comment concerning the post title: The post title was suggesting that even though we complain so frequently about anonymous commenting, it seems that we welcome it, considering the blog owners choose to do nothing about it.

  20. Umm, also not everyone has an account to post with.

  21. I noticed a lot of commenters with blogger names win votes & become writers for popular blogs because through commenting they become well known. Not everyone wants that or has a blogger account. Attacking your readers is not the answer, who knows you may need their support for votes, competitions or support in the future.

  22. I don't understand why some of you can't handle opposing viewpoints. I have been following this blog for a while and have never noticed any vicious anonymous comments against the writers. People disagreeing? Sure, but nothing like the angry comments on blogs like PSG. And yet you all complain the most. Not everyone is going to like what you write, and they should be able to post their opinions without bothering with creating a blogger account. What's the point of having a blog to discuss things if you're only willing to listen to the compliments and not the criticism? You say the problem is anonymous commenters, but the real problem for you all seems to be anyone that disagrees with you.

  25. Now I'm turned off.

Aislin, you're being too self righteous here. The readers don't owe anything to you. You owe everything to us.

Have you forgotten how you started? You're as anonymous as us here.

Even if I have a blogger and Stardoll account, I am still anonymous, right?

You've crossed the border telling the blog owners, Noelle in particular how to run her own blog. Shame on you. Shame on you.
