New Agreement? Things you should know!

Today I log into Stardoll and see another boring update to the site, but this time, it caught my eye.

I read (skimmed) though it to read that they have indeed change their business and whats on the site now. And we can see that they are also trying to focus on us and our parents to 'look after' us.

What's said above is basically saying that.. depending on our ages and our 'parent's' permission, we now have limitations on the site other than being SS or not. I find that nice yet weird by so many means. I mean really, I could always do what I wanted to do on my computers in the past, so I would be pissed (if I wasn't 18 now) if I had to ask my mommy and daddy to let me play on a paperdoll site!

I suggest you read this one for yourself! It was shocking for me to read.. pretty much Stardoll is saying that they want to get to know us better..? I guess its a way of saying they want to us to help them improve the site with our information... whatever. Sounds like a load of bull, you don't need a phone number Stardoll! And another thing I forgot to highlight is the need of an 'instant messaging address'... What? Stardoll wants to send me messages over Skype and Msn now? Hah!

I like that Stardoll is saying now that if they see members in harm that they will try and refer them to some type of help. But to be honest, I doubt it. AND, not the part that says "but not limited to eating disorders, self harm, suicide, etc." What? So if a person is hurting THEMSELVES, you won't help them..? Wow. Just wow.

And now, if you get caught giving away your password, if they do something to your account that you didn't desire, like hack it or steal or spend money, you can't blame them for it, which is good I suppose.

Ah, my last picture, and its another lovely add-on to the terms. The 7th term basically says, if you made something, good or bad, you own up to it. So it might mean when members make clubs, parties, posts, or designs with bad language or messages in it and that they will pay the price maybe?

The 8th part is basically saying, 'if we like your stuff enough, we can use it all we want to, and you can't do anything about it.'

The 9th part worries me the most, it also confuses me the most. So.. does it mean we might not be able to make graphics anymore..? It clearly says we aren't allowed to make use of Stardoll material.. does that include faces, bodies, and clothes? Most likely, but I have no idea..

And the 10th part is creepy to me.. even after you are deleted, Stardoll STILL stores your infomation.. *shivers* What if they called me or something?!

There are a few more terms but those were the points (in red) that I found more interesting to actually read.

Your opinions on the matters?!

Love, Dei

  4. I think they will start to verify purchases made on accounts if it was indeed authorized... this is to avoid fraud most probably. The intention is good... the verbiage on the terms is a bit scary for tweens though.

  5. Stardoll cannot control hacking & stealing virtual items on their site, yet they want your personal information. How secure would people's personal details be with their lack of security & identity theft all over the place. They can have their account back if they want.

  6. It could be because of credit card payments.

  7. I'm going to continue to make graphics with other user's heads. I don't care what they think, if they want to continue making money then they will let us make (slave) ideas for them. After all, it's the users on the website who control it, not the Admins.

  8. That's unfair! I hate stardoll now! They can kiss goodbye to their 100 million members! :O

  9. Hmm :S
With the personal information bit and giving them our phone numbers etc, they don't actually say they will keep our private information.. well private. Meaning that they could sell that info to other companies, which I don't really like the idea of. Correct me if it does say that though. :P

And I sent a message to stardoll to clarify the bit about the 9th part :P

  13. Well Stardoll cares only about own income.
What i do not like is the fact that we can't "sell" our accounts. Because a t real we don't sell an acount but the time and the money which we we spend on.
So Stardoll takes everything but gives juzt a liitle dot.

  14. Just to add too... i hope they aren't really restricting users like myself in using Stardoll graphics (the heads and faces in particular). I mean they themselves made use (or took inspiration from) of i-dressup items... even graphics from this blog. So all's just fair.

  15. @Kylie: Makes sense. Big companies make use of their database to earn more income by selling them to third parties / partners for advertising purposes. They call them (or us) leads. In a couple of days from the release of these new "RULES", i won't be surprised to get spam'ed on my email.

  16. Stardoll can just screw themselves in the ass for all I care.

  17. Please take this post down. You guys ought to state facts as they are. These are all assumptions and Stardoll would not tolerate such acts.

  18. Stardoll is getting stupid now. I mean, it's a paper doll site, well it used to be, and now it some kind of evil monster swallowing your money and watching your EVERY move. So what if we made a mistake, BY ACCIDENT, and they delete our accounts forever?! No matter how much we spend on their sites.

Maybe if we all just left stardoll, who would be laughing then?

  19. I was wondering if it had anything to do with the hacking. Now they will know if it was a real account and if you really got hacked perhaps? They could ring you to sort it out.

Does that maybe fit? Its just what sprung to my mind.

  20. Stardoll already has my numbers because of a past competition win, its nothing to worry about they dont call alot and its a nice lady called Kate or something that calls.

  21. @Noelle we can't use heads, :0 oh well I think I may anyway. Its just a face...

  22. darn how am I going to finish my fashion line with no heads =[ I may just have to try and make faces, thats not going to be good...

  23. thank you so much for expaining us in little words the whole essay! :) I don't understand most of the terms though and I am 17.. Guess what happens with younger users!!

The most bad thing is the stardoll - material etc.. I dont understand if we can use pictures in blogs anymore... duh!!

  24. Giving out your personal information to them could also be an agreement they made with companies to advertise & promote their products. Other gamesites do this but you can only give your details out if you wish it is not compulsory or advisable. You get spam mail but in this case stardoll will send you the spam mail.

  25. You all are over reacting! If SD had no other way of contacting you, they'd prolly drop you a call or im. No biggy! Silly people :@)

  26. What about storing credit cards, paypal, phone numbers? Stardoll is BS.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh man, I think either WE got this wrong, or THEY are doing something wrong ;s

  28. We can use graphics and stuuf for blogs! Ruubin wrote to stardoll and they told her we are allowed to use the content for blogs, they changed their minds!!!
    :)))

  29. Pretty dang freaky.
However,Stardoll clearly states "without the written consent of Stardoll". Stardoll has always claimed they support magazines, blogs and such,so this basically means that your magazine content must be approved by Stardoll before it is published. Which sucks for new, blooming magazines since Stardoll will pay more attention to customers they already know do good work.Sad.
