Forbidden Language?

We're all familiar with Stardoll's One-Stop Rules. They're not too hard to memorize, considering they're just about the same as every other website I've come across. The first rule on the list is don't swear. It seems like a perfectly understandable rule, until you realize how long Stardoll's list of "swear words" is. It has swear words mixed in with words that would be completely innocent, if it wasn't for how some users act. It can get excessive.

Now, like I said before, not swearing is a perfectly understandable expectation. Stardoll's target audience is pretty young, and they don't want children to be exposed to all that. It's the way that they go about it that bugs me. Words like 'dirty' are banned, when they're perfectly innocent in some situations. For example, I roleplay a lot. Pretty recently, my character was upset because her outfit was torn and dirty. Only I couldn't word it like that, because their Forbidden Language Robots see the word dirty and tell me I can't post that. They also pick up on their forbidden words if they're a part of other words and separated by a space. For example, I wouldn't be able to type 'she's exactly...' because of the word that Stardoll picks up on. The worst part about it all is that it doesn't even work. People still find a way to bypass the filters to break the rules.

So, do you think that Stardoll is too strict about their forbidden language, or should they keep doing what they're doing now?

  1. I also roleplay and hate that I can't even use words that contain "ex", yet you can blatantly write "hell" or "damn" and it will be allowed.

I found the best way to get around this is to use messletters.com.

  2. I just noticed this when I was editing my presentation the other day. I had written "can always" a few months back without it being a problem, but all of a sudden, a "forbidden word" had been detected.
Not thinking ahead, I tried changing it to "can usually". You can guess how that went over.

Man, how bad does the situation have to get for this to be considered a reasonable solution?

  5. Haha this is SOOO irritating! Sometimes when I'm typing a blog post (on stardoll), it keeps saying it contains 'forbidden language' and what bugs me is that it doesn't even point out what part of the post is 'forbidden'. I end up deleting practically the whole post until it actually allows me. Thanks, stardoll. Real smooth.

  6. I seriously get mad when i cant say word dirty or other words. And seriously young kids learning bad words? They already know all bad words even better then i do. Like yesterday my little sister who is 9 years old said to me: ,,Anna your a bad dirty stupid as* h*le!''. Kids cant get worse by seeing a word ugly or stupid they know them anyway.
    Awesome post By the way♥♥

  8. i know, it's so annoying! It has happened to me many times when Stardoll thinks several different words are one, like once when I had problems viewing Inbetween Stardoll (it worked fine a few hours later) and I tried to contact the owner, Amanda. I wrote something like 'I can't open ISD' and it came out like 'I can't o*** **D'!!! I had to delete the message!
